Turned Wood Bowl, Vintage

$250

Vintage turned wooden bowl signed by Richard Raffan, who is a master instructor in Australia.  This bowl is turned from a River Red Gum Tree.

Richard Raffan is best known as a writer and teacher, for his books, videos, and magazine articles, as well as for demonstrations and hands-on workshops.

But this notoriety came upon him in the mid-1980s on the back of a reputation established in the crafts in Britain in the 1970s, well before woodturning took off as the popular hobby and aspiring art form it is today, and before he moved to Australia in 1982.

River red gum trees can grow to be 100–150 ft (30–46 m) tall and 3–5 ft (1–1.5 m) in trunk diameter. They require access to groundwater or regular inundation to remain healthy.

14" diameter X 3 3/4" tall
